Bordeaux retro shirts: Girondins navy – page 3
Bordeaux play in navy with a white scapular, a V-shaped band across the shoulders that makes their shirt instantly recognisable. Here are Girondins shirts from the early 1980s to now: home, away and third kits, match issue pieces, keeper shirts and training wear.
Six titles and a UEFA Cup final
Bordeaux have been champions of France six times, from 1950 to 2009, with three titles in the 1980s. In 1996 a side with Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu reached the UEFA Cup final, where they lost to Bayern Munich. Hard times followed later, and the club lost its professional status in 2024. For anyone who watched French football on British television in the 80s and 90s, the shirt still means quality.
Long sleeves and adidas
Long-sleeve home shirts from 1981-83, 1986-87 and 1987-88 are among the oldest on the page. adidas made the kit around the 1999 title and early 2000s, and its training jackets and graphic tees from that time are here too. Puma shirts follow from the mid-2000s, before adidas returned.
Bellion, Papin and Pauleta
David Bellion is the most printed name, on match issue shirts from 2007 to 2012. A 1996-97 shirt has J.P.P. on the back for Jean-Pierre Papin. There are also shirts for Pauleta, Dugarry and Jurietti, the last a match worn UEFA Cup shirt.
Girondins shirts today
With the club now outside the professional game, Bordeaux shirts from the good years have become something of a keepsake for fans of French football. Check the size and condition score on every listing, as older shirts can show wear on the crest.
