Unión Deportiva Las Palmas was founded on 22 August 1949 through the merger of five clubs from across the Canary Islands — an unusual origin even by Spanish standards. Nicknamed Los Amarillos, the yellows, they played at the Estadio Insular before moving to the Estadio Gran Canaria in 2003.
The club has been Segunda División champions four times. Its shirts are less widely traded than mainland Spanish clubs, which keeps supply modest but prices low.
