Yugoslavia retro shirts: the last of the Plavi
Shirts with Yugoslavia across the crest stopped being made more than twenty years ago, which is a big part of their pull. This page covers the national side’s kits from the early 1990s to 2003: blue home shirts, white away tops and a few rarer match pieces.
A country that no longer exists
Yugoslavia had some of the most gifted players in Europe, and a team that should have gone far in the 1990s was kept out of tournaments during the wars. The side came back for the 1998 World Cup in France and Euro 2000, where Savo Milosevic finished joint top scorer. In 2003 the country became Serbia and Montenegro, so these shirts mark the final chapter of the name.
Blue at home, white away
Home shirts in blue make up the largest group, from the 1998-99 kit through to the 2002-03 shirt. The white away shirts of 1998-2000 and 2000-01 are the other main set. Older pieces are thin on the ground, but there is a 1990-91 match issue home shirt from the early 90s side. A Lotto piece from 2002-03 and a 1999 match worn away shirt round it off.
Mijatovic and the number 8
Predrag Mijatovic is the name you will see most often, on 2000-01 home shirts with the number 8. He arrived at France 98 as the Real Madrid striker who had scored the winner in the Champions League final that spring.
Who buys these
Collectors of football from the former Yugoslavia, fans of Serbian and Montenegrin clubs, and anyone who grew up with late-90s tournaments. Sizes and condition scores are listed on every shirt.
