South Korea retro shirts: red from Seoul – page 5

South Korea’s red shirts became one of the images of the 2002 World Cup, when the stadiums turned into seas of the colour. This page lists the national side’s shirts from the late 1990s to recent years: home and away kits, player issue pieces, keeper shirts and training tops.

The summer of 2002

South Korea co-hosted the 2002 World Cup with Japan and reached the semi-finals under Guus Hiddink, beating Italy and Spain on the way. No Asian side had gone so far before. Shirts from that tournament are the biggest single group here, and the 2002-03 home kit is the one many collectors want first.

Player issue and the Nike years

Nike has supplied the team since the late 1990s, so the page tracks the brand’s design changes over more than two decades. Player issue shirts make up an unusually large share of the stock, from the 2002 tournament through to the mid-2010s. Away shirts are mostly white, and there are goalkeeper shirts for several tournaments.

Park and Ahn on the back

Two names lead the printed shirts. Ahn Jung-hwan scored the golden goal that knocked Italy out in 2002, and his shirts are labelled J.H.Ahn. Park Ji-sung, who later won the Premier League with Manchester United, has the same number of shirts. A recent print for Son Heung-min joins them.

Asian sizing

Some shirts were made for the Korean market and run a size smaller than European labels. Check the measurements and the condition score on each listing.
