Werder Bremen were founded on 4 February 1899 and share with Bayern Munich the record for most Bundesliga seasons played. The club has four German championships, the first in 1964-65 and the last in the double-winning season of 2003-04, six DFB-Pokal wins from 1960-61 to 2008-09, and the 1991-92 European Cup Winners’ Cup. The star above the diamond crest stands for the four league titles. Green and white are the club colours, celebrated in the club song, but there are exceptions worth knowing: Werder played in the city’s red and white from 1971 to 1973, and in blue in 1976 because of the shirt sponsor Norda.
The home shirt has alternated between predominantly green and predominantly white over the years, and a mainly white home shirt has not been used since 2008-09 – so a white Bremen home shirt is from that season or earlier.
