Nottingham Forest have worn red since 1865, when the founding meeting at the Clinton Arms resolved on Garibaldi red after the Italian patriot’s redshirts, and a dozen red caps were bought. Forest were the first club to adopt the colour officially, and in 1886 donated a full set of red kits to the newly formed Woolwich Arsenal. They have played at the City Ground since 1898. None of that early history survives as shirts you can buy: the oldest items here are from 1980, so the European Cups of 1979 and 1980 appear only as the two stars above the badge.
About 200 of the roughly 290 items date from 2010 onwards, with some 43 from the 2000s, 33 from the 1990s and only 10 from the 1980s. Home shirts number over 100, away shirts around 80, and there is a run of 27 third shirts. Match-issue shirts prepared for individual fixtures form a group of two dozen and are priced far above retail versions; the dearest items on the page are recent match-issue home shirts carrying squad names.
The current crest dates from 1974, the winning entry in a competition run in 1973 and designed by Trent Polytechnic lecturer David Lewis. Forest’s honours are two European Cups, one league title, two FA Cups, four League Cups and a UEFA Super Cup; the League Cups of 1989 and 1990 came in Brian Clough’s final decade. Umbro, Macron and adidas branding all appear in the titles. Prices run from about two pounds for a worn training top to three hundred for a 1990s home shirt with a squad name.
